SpinCycle
Studio
Cycling & Wattbike Performance Monitoring
Studio Cycling or Spinning as it
is better known is a great workout session for all abilities on
specially designed indoor bikes with motivational workouts set to
music with an instructor. The focus is on improving aerobic capacity
and cardiovascular fitness as well as encouraging a healthy lifestyle,
losing weight, de-stressing before or after work or just the enjoyment
of being part of a motivated group. |
|
Studio Cycling classes are set to
music to create an energized atmosphere where we guide participants
through workout phases of warm-up, steady up tempo cadences, sprints,
flats, climbs and cool-downs etc. Resistance is controlled by
the rider to make pedalling easy or more difficult and everyone
works to their own intensity.
Constant adjustment is normal and we will guide participants through
when and how to increase or decrease resistance accordingly. Hand
positions, pedalling efficiency, form and position on the bike
together with good overall technique will also be covered.
Our
bikes are the Schwinn IC Elite with high inertia drive system comprised of a 17.5kg flywheel
that simulates
the feel of road riding and optimally distributes the weight of the
wheel to the outer section and only minimum weight on the inside, thus
providing a smooth and realistic feel at any speed – making it easier
for the beginner yet challenging for the athlete. The
seat positions are fully adjustable (fore and aft, up and down).
Handlebars are multi-position rubber coated stainless steel that are
height adjustable and are safe and easy to use. The pedals are reversible with
toe clips on
one side so normal training shoes may be worn (although a stiff sole
shoe is better) and Shimano style SPD clip in's on the other so cycling
shoes with cleats may be worn. Four of the bikes have SPD on one side
and the older style LooK cleats on the other.

If
you would like to hone your cycling skills, try our Wattbike Pro. It
is the first indoor bike that has ever been endorsed by British
Cycling and it is now used as their frontline Talent ID screening
tool. Key features include the fact that it feels like ‘real’ cycling
– on the flat and climbing – and it delivers accurate, repeatable and
comparable results. The bike can be used for rehabilitation, general
fitness, high level training, scientific testing, cross-training and
competition.
It features a unique ‘polar display’ that provides immediate feedback
on the cyclist’s technique showing the peak force pr ofile of the left
and right leg downstroke and creates a profile for your pedalling
efficiency. It delivers a new level of depth and accuracy of data all
of which can be viewed in real time and saved for later analysis. At
one extreme, it is an exercise bike, and at the other, it’s a highly
sophisticated sports science analysis bike, making it suitable for
everyone from recreational cyclists through to Olympic champions.
The
bike monitors everything you need to know about your cycling
technique and will
help to track progress as your training develops. Whether you are
looking to monitor your power output (watts), cadence, heart rate and
the effectiveness of your pedalling, there is a measurement parameter
for you. What you track is up to you.
You can train on our Wattbike at our Studio
on your own unsupervised, after induction, at a rate of £9 per hour* or with an
instructor at £39 per
hour. Bring your own CD's or Ipod/MP3 and plug it into
our system and away you go. Please book in advance as the popular slot
times are quite limited.
For £5 why not enter our Wattbike
Fun League and compare your results with other enthusiasts. Choose
what you would like to enter from Peak Power Test, Women's 500 metre
Sprint, Men's 750 metre Sprint, Kilo, 3 Minute fitness test, 3km Women's,
4km Men's and 10K. We'll log your performance and enter the results
into our league database.
